First Day!
October 12, 2023
Judgment call made to have a C-Section the morning of her due date. I just had a gut feeling she was not going to progress into actual labor and it is not worth the risk of losing any pups. Thank you so much to my vet and his team for letting me interrupt cat spay/neuter day (several there by one owner) and bring her in and get them here safely! There was one glob of black that had been a pup but was lost very early on… I do believe it was at the very end of her horn, closest to the exit (vulva) that was most likely keeping her from going into labor. I need to confirm this with my reproduction vet, but I have read that a dead pup can delay or hold up whelping. So glad I made the call to get them out!
Peony getting a bit drowsy.

Pups were groggy and raspy for awhile post c-section. They unfortunately get the goofy juice too. Black Boy one is a real go-getter and was the first to latch on and nurse and get Momma’s first milk with the colostrum. It is important each pups gets that first mothers milk as it contains much needed antibodies and such. That boy one got more than his fair share as it took. awhile for the others to really get going. But I made sure they all latched on and nursed. It’s what a breeder does to make sure her pups are started out right.

#1 Boy latching on to a teat. What a go-getter! I like his energy and will power!
I didn’t get to mark the pups and the birth order was shot… so… I just numbered them as I picked them up to be weighed. Random order except for Black Boy one, I think he deserved to be the headliner! What a guy! 🙂

#1 – Boy (Black) – birthweight 13 oz

#2 – Girl (Liver?) – birthweight 14 1/4 oz

#3 – Girl (Liver?) – birthweight 10 3/4 oz

#4 – Boy (Black?) – birthweight 13 oz

#5 – Girl (Liver?) – birthweight 14 5/8 oz

#6 – Girl (Liver) – birthweight 11 1/8 oz
Peony cannot have any pain meds as she is nursing. She was very sore at first, but by last night she was feeling better as far as walking out to go potty and actually pottying. I am sure it hurt to squat. She was running a bit of a fever last night, but it broke and she was normal this morning. I will keep taking her temperature for quite a while longer as it will tell me how she is doing. Gotta keep Momma Peony feeling good and producing milk for her beautiful babies!
