First Day!

All are doing well, are very vigorous, nursing, and are big squirmers when trying to get their weights. Some have gained and a couple have dropped or just wiggled too much.. It is normal for pups to sometimes drop just slightly from birth to the first days weight, but from now on they should start gaining each day. If not, it is the breeders job to make sure the puppy that is smallest or is not gaining as fast gets put on a teat several times during the day. Just a little extra boost to get them caught up. This is why a good breeder weighs the pups daily for at least the first couple of weeks, or until everyone is obviously thriving. when you are dealing in oz’s in very small increments of gain, a small loss unattended can be disastrous by the time it is noticeable to the eye alone.
