Let’s Get This Party Started

Peony temperature at 9:19 a.m. – 99.3. This could be the temperature drop. They will drop to 98 for a few hours and then the temperature goes back up. That is why you have to take it at a minimum of twice a day, so you can catch it. They should start whelping puppies uin 24 hours after the drop.

She ate breakfast and then went out to potty and more stringy thang was coming out her vulva. She has to be getting close! Still no nesting. She’s very quiet.

Simone temperature at 9:30 a.m. – 99.8. She ate her breakfast. Out to potty. Wanted to dig but since I have her designated spot covered up, she did not dig. I don’t mind them digging, but not next to my foundation. It has been raining and I do not need water in my basement. SPOTTED TURKEY dog!

Looks like Peony is going to come first… we shall see. Her projected due date is in 4 days. If they come now, they should be okay as the lungs will be mature enough. Thank Goodness!

1:53 p.m. – Simone coughing/gagging a bit. They can do this prior to whelping. Her eyes look a bit strained. She must be having some contractions. No visible contractions or nesting. No panting.

2:39 pm – All is quiet. nap time for all of us…. zzzzzzz

4:06 p.m. – Ok. THEY napped. I did not. I rested though, I think. Simone is restless and a bit of open mouth gentle panting on and off. The beginning stages of labor most likely. That stage can go on for awhile (up to 36 hours in some cases).

Peony is quiet but still wagging her tail when I talk to you. Earlier I got a quick smile out of her. She has not typically been a smiler to date, but all the hormones may be making her smile. 🙂 She went out to potty, had a tiny bit of stringer, and a few open mouth pants. She is now resting in her whelping box again.

Fed Simone and Peony supper around 6:30, Peony at all of hers, Simone ate about half. Tonight is probably the night for Simone.

8:05 p.m. Simone restless and walking around panting. In whelping box and then on couch. Still smiling at me and talking. Not quite serious yet.

10:00 p.m. – Simone is getting closer. Restless and then resting. Peony was panting for a bit and now resting. I made COFFEE!

Simone resting during the nesting process. This process can go on for 24 to 36 hours before actual whelping begins.
Peony resting. Not ready yet.
