First Week behind us…

Yesterday we were one week old. Although a landmark day,, Momma J took a break from photos and posting. Last night we did not let Momma J sleep at all! We fussed and fussed. sometimes we had to potty and Momma J had to hold whoever was crying up to Momma Peony to lick to stimulate urination. Did you know we cannot urinate on our own until after three weeks of age? Momma Peony has to lick us to stimulate us to go pee and poo. The other times we were fussing because Momma Peony was out of milk! It is true all we do is eat, sleep, and sometimes cry during this time. Why do they seem to fuss the most during the night?

Spotting should start coming into the fur around 2 weeks of age. I am starting to see a few shadows of spots. It is exciting to anticipate how each pup will turn out. I don’t put much stock into looking for hidden spots at this time. It is what it will be. I do like to look at rears and toplines as they are nursing and/or crawling. I do watch as the pigment on the nose and eye rims fill in. I love when the little noses have personality of their own created by the tiny little dots that will eventually all merged together to make a fully pigmented nose.

Pups generally start hearing 12-21 days, and eyes should open slightly after the hearing on each pup. Each pup follows their own schedule.

Today we will get our toenails clipped with a fingernail clipper. Momma J won’t feel too badly about it after being kept up all night. LOL Turkey turds… LOL Momma J said she needs to schedule the BAER hearing test.

Photos, Weights, Super Puppy,. toenails and paperwork are on the agenda today. Oh Momma J has ordered us nice thick blanket throws and Puppy Rearing Book. Still need to order JLS Dalmatians tote bags, toys and treats to complete the take home gifts. I also need to get my puppy packet to the print shop to put in three ring binders.

I also need to go ahead and start the litter application process. With frozen semen litter it all must be done manually, no online shortcut. The repro vet already filled in and signed their part at the time of insemination. Now we need owner and stud dog signatures.

Busy day and momma J just spilled her coffee down the front of her shirt…. <SIGH> Best there than on the laptop!
