OK, Momma J is so tired and no puppies yet. I was up and down all night taking turns letting girls out and in, in and out… they get very restless. I finally got a few hours of sleep, as did they. We are moving a bit slow this morning. I was sure they both were going to go last night. I have my friend on stand-by, in case they were all coming fast. But all settled down and no puppies yet.
Simone’s temperature at 9:25 a.m. 98.5. I think it is the drop finally. They usually whelp 24 hours after the temperature drop. She could have dropped hours ago. I pray not another long night.
Peony is very serious and quiet. She is so full her tummy is very tight. Her temperature at 9:37 a.m. – 99.2.
12:23 p.m.- Yea we have something starting! Simone had a bit of discharge. She wanted to go out to potty and came back in to her whelping box and licking her vulva. Coughing.
12:38 p.m.- Simone out to potty again, back to her pool, licking and panting. Coughing a bit and talking to me.
12:59 p.m. – Peony mildly open mouth panting. These two are determined to keep Momma J busy!
1:20 p.m. – Simone open mouth panting. No water sac yet, no pup yet. But she’s working on it.
1:38 p.m. – Out to potty again, a tiny bit of discharge. She’s trotting around the pen, stopping and doing what looks like she is trying to poop. The pressure of a puppy presenting into the birth canal makes them feel like they need to “go”. Back inside to the whelping box, where she is now resting a bit.
Peony has been watching quietly from her whelping box. I told her she needs to watch and learn. LOL. Her turn is coming. Both resting now.
2:00 p.m. Simone out to potty again. She isn’t peeing, but just pushing a bit. No fluid yet. Then she wants back inside to her whelping pen. This pattern will go on for a bit but a puppy should be coming soon. Meanwhile, Peony is sleeping and looks like a beached whale. She is so full.
3:52 p.m. The pattern continues to go outside, push a bit, then come back in and lick. Each time she should be getting closer to whelping the first pup. I still have not seen the water sac nor a big wet Spot. It should be soon. C’mon Simone. I always worry until all are here safely.
